Tyrol Castle
Castle Tyrol was the ancestral seat of the Counts of Tyrol. It lent its name to the country, which appeared in the 13th century under Count Meinhard II.
Nowadays the Castle hosts the South Tyrolean Museum of History. This has been established in Castle Tyrol to promote the presentation of the history of Tyrol through scientifically-based research and the development of its own collection in collaboration with similar institutions around the world.
Messner Mountain Museum
The Messner Mountain Museum is located at Castle Sigmundskron (south of Bolzano), Firmian. The MMM Firmian presents information about the mountains and its people. At Sigmundskron visitors are guided on a tour explaining the history of the mountains of pictures, sculptures, photos, symbolic objects and mementos collected on numerous expeditions.
Museum of traditions and customs
The idea of a Farmer’s Museum comes from the German Horst Griesner who lives in Völlan, the local farmers and Karl Frei, and they were helped by the priest P. Rudolf Lantschner O.T. who offered them the outhouse of the rectory that originally used to house the wood shed, the laundry, pig stall and oven.
